Kiss Of The Vampire (1963)

Kiss Of The Vampire (1963)

In this advert the women have short hair ; in 1963 having short hair would not have been stereotypical as the beauty standard was to have long hair so it suggests she is rebelling against society. This could suggest god is punishing her for doing this as the hermeneutic code of her neck being exposed suggests she is about to be bitten/killed by the vampire (good vs evil). Her light clothes suggests purity and this is juxtaposed against her actions to cut her hair.

The dark colour scheme of greys, blacks and dark reds has gothic connotations and the clothes worn by the women are juxtaposed with the purity of the white/gold. it is a symbolic code of the gothic genre and has connotations of darkness.

The 1960s 'skimpy' clothing has sexual connotations.

The poster is in a state of disequilibrium because it portrays the danger and drama that could occur. The proaoretic code of the castle suggests that the characters will be at that location and something 'scary' is going to happen. Character archetypes suggest the typical beautiful woman will be held captive by an ugly villainous monster.'Damsel in Distress'. By 1960s standards they are practically wearing underwear. The woman are there as decoration, they are there for a sexual purpose - they are being objectified.

The symbolic code of the red on his jacket makes instnatly assume that there will be some kinf of death, blood or romance (multiple meanings).

Binary Oppositions:
Light Vs Dark
Kiss Vs Vampire
Good Vs Evil
Men Vs Women
Powe Vs Helplessness
Tan Vs Light Skin
