The media is controlled by a small number of companies primarily driven by the logic of profit and domination.

Regulation - Sonia Livingstone and Peter Lunt
Transformations in the production, distribution, and marketing of digital media, have placed traditional approaches o media restrictions at risk.

Cultural industries - David Hesmondhalgh
Companies try to minimise risk and maximise audiences through vertical and horizontal integration.

Cultural Capital

The value of culture.
The cultural resources of an individual, for example knowledge, qualifications, art, customs and tastes.
This is a form of hegemony.

The only one main story suggests that the audience cannot focus on to more than one story, also hey use direct address of which suggests they are trying to make the working class audience more included in politics "What it means for you". Also the slang suggests the audience doesn't understand 'traditional english' as they are uneducated. It also has a cluttered and crowded layout.

This leads to people feeling like they are not good enough to read 'classier' newspapers. This is a form of control over the public (hegemony). The lexis is a form of anchorage as it leaves the audience feeling like they are not clever.

Clay Shirkley - 'End of Audience'

Audiences are no longer passive; they interact with media products in an increasingly complex variety of ways.
