Analysing bias and the construction of representation in The Times and The Daily Mirror

- The Daily Mirror has a red and white masthead at the top of the page
- The front cover does not include a barcode however I assume that it will be on the back of the newspaper
- The splash on the front cover has a caption: 'How Trump triumphed... and what it means for you and the world' this elaborates on what is talked about what is in the newspaper
- It also includes a couple of headline: 'It's President Trump' and 'What have they done?'
- The main image is of The Statue of Liberty with her hands over her face in shame
- The skyline at the top of the page tells the readers about other stories in the newspaper. In this case it mentions the death of 7 people in speeding tram crash
- This copy of the Daily Mirror has a gutter along the sides of the paper

This front cover has a few things that are politically biased. The splash of The Statue of Liberty has her face in her hands symbolising the shame she feels for her country. This shows that The Daily Mirror aren't in favour of Trump and fear for the future. The caption: 'What have you done?' reiterates their fear for what is going to happen. The headline: 'It's President Trump...' creates an annoyed tone which suggests that they are anti-Trump. If they were in favour of trump it would end with an exclamation mark so signify excitement and happiness.

This newspaper is left wing and the gesture of statue of liberty holding her head in shame is connative of the fall of American values. The cloudy sky is a proiaretic code that something bad is going to happen (e.g. war, apocalypse etc). This suggests that the ideology of the producer id that they don't agree with what the American people have done.

The Times masthead is very monochromatic in comparison to the Sun and is not the main focal point. The Splash is the main focal point of the page and a simple headline is all that is needed in order to make a statement.
The lead story is clearly a representation of the newspapers ideology in support for Trump. The Cover features a pull quote that forms the only text on the cover. It clearly shows bias through the centre spread towards how glorious Trump is. America is represented as glorious and strong through the symbolic code of the clenched fist in the air of which suggests power and freedom. The image of Pence's hands clapped together are symbolic of prayer and could suggest that Trump is god-like and he is worthy of being prayed to, he will save America. The American flag in the background is a symbol of unity. The use of reassurance is used to emphasise Trump's intentions - it seems quite sarcastic especially at this point we don't know what he plans to do. It is a forceful command that i sinister.0

This is a double page spread from The Daily Mirror, there are various captions on the first page which tell the audience who is in the picture and the current state of America. It has page numbers in the top corner.
The ideology of the producer is that people voted for Trump in order to get rid of immigrants, and that they are doing what is wrong for them.
One audience response id anger at those who voted for Trump, it is constructing a representation of those who voted for him. The man picture is a stereotypical American looking stoned (white trash etc). The use of the box sating 'hispanics for trump', shows that it wasn't just a stereotype and that the entire population is to blame.
The gesture of Hilary's head held high from a low angle suggests she is dominant and powerful and the stupidity of the American people of voting for Trump.
The binary oppostions of Hilary and Trump represents their pollitical views, one is on the left side and the other is on the right.
