The music video presents a mocking parody of sexism in music videos. Low angle mid shot of the woman holding her arms in the air and her gesture connotes power. The mid shot of the woman breaking free from where she has been tied up, connotes women in society are stuck with restrictions as a lot of places still see women as the weaker sex. It could also connote how women are tied down with the kids, and that she is put at a disadvantage. This video lacks anchorage, this forces the audience to make their own assumptions. The height difference between male and female through the use of low angled shots makes m=women seem more powerful. The video is highly polysemic and most of all subversive of the hegemonic ideological perspectives normally seen in music videos.

Intertextuality of Riptide:

It allows the audience to have a completely ew way to relate to the product
It allows the audience satisfaction as they know what is happening.

Susperia:
The props - knives, noose, gloved hands, barbed wire
Weak and vulnerable female protagonist - damsel in distress archetype
The colour scheme of the vibrant primary colours achieved with physical lighting. Highly typical of 70s italian horror.
The soundtrack - the use of suspenseful non-diegetic sound, diegetic female screaming.
Violent male antagonist.
Iconic features such as cherry red blood oozing everywhere.
Retro fashion with patterns of muted colours.

The iconography heavily references the horror genre.

Surrealism is an artistic movement that originated from France. A text that follows the sequence of dreams. An eyeline match is wear we cut from someone looking at something to what they can see.

The reason why the video uses this intertextuality is to provide the audience with the gratification of social interaction.

Binary Oppositions:
We know Bart Simpson is naughty because Lisa Simpson is so good.

Producers use binary oppositions in order to make things comical.
