Why do regulations exist for television?

So children don't see things that they shouldn't. E.g. Violence and Pornography
This is traumatising for growing minds.
This is why shows that contain matters like this are shown after the 9pm watershed.
There are sometime secondary and third watersheds for really controversial stuff.
Mass media can be used to control groups of people - this is the hypodermic needle model. - But are we really that stupid? (Passive audience theory)

OFCOM Regulate Television in the UK.

Harm and Offence - Limiting what is accessible to children
-Emotional harm/Mental issues
-Hurts their feelings
-Criticises their faith and religion
-Provoke violent crime
-Manipulate an ideology
- Provoke racial hatred

Its harder to regulate media in general due to the internet and digital technologies.

Self regulations - Parents regulating what their children watch



 The gun is intended to kill Anita.The air rifle would be easy to get hold of in the UK. Imitable behaviour that is seen as bullying. This could lead to someone copying her. Sadism.
 Depicts prostitution - ethical considerations. Objectifies women, Taboo of humans having sex with robots. Leads to sexual assault.

 Kidnapping/suggested dead body. May trigger memories. Also implies sexual assault.
 Connotations of slavery and the holocaust due to the synths tattoo.
 Depiction of lifeless body. Could trigger people with PTSD from a violent past.
