What is 'representation'?

-Representation is re-presentation by a producer for the purpose of showing their ideology, messages and values. This is for manipulating the audience as this emits an ideology to the audience. This manipulating will change the opinion of the audience - Hypodermic Needle Theory/ Cultivation Theory. This also impacts the minority that have been represented - this reinforces a stereotype.

Humans Closing Montage - Textual Analysis

- Both Anita and Laura show motherly affection towards the small child - this is frowned upon as Anita is not the Childs mother nor a biological parent.
- M/S of Anita standing over the child before kissing her forehead further reinforces this ideology.
-The young child has no idea what is going on, the child is being exploited when she is kidnapped by Anita. The low angle shot of the giraffe being dropped on the floor is a binary opposition of when Laura has placed the giraffe next to the child, as if Anita does not care about the wellbeing of the child unlike Laura.
- the slow zoom on the sex workers face that is looking straight at the camera makes the audience feel very uncomfortable as it is a voyeuristic scene. She is being raped, although she cannot consent as she is a robot.

Advert Analysis 1 This advert was published when women played a stereotypical role in the household of a cleaning lady. It is aimed at middle class women who still do their own washing yet they have a solid income from their husbands and can afford for their clothes to look as good as new.  The way she is hugging the red box suggests it is her new love, that it is all she wants. The red box suggests that she relies on this product like she relies on a man. It is colourful and bright which suggests that the product will lead to a better, optimistic life. The advert is blunt with no hidden meanings, it suggest that she does the job - she is the washing machine.
