This is called 'Classical Hollywood Narrative'.   Spatial continuity - Audience always knows Temporal continuity - Flashbacks etc Film Indus

Audience Manipulation

Audience Manipulation What do I know about audience? The concept of audience is essential for media product existing , a product can have a primary and secondary audience.  It is the audience who decide on the success of the product  - demographics is a way of classifying people based on their social class.   Psychographics is a way of classifying people based on their personality. Mass media is media that can be spread to mass audiences quickly and easily (radio and television) What ideologies are cultivated by this Tide advert? This makes women believe that this is what they should be doing and make men believe it should be the female in the house that does the washing. We know that it is women who do the cleaning as it only includes pictures of women doing the washing, there are no men. We are not born with this theory, we learn it through the cultivation advert. It is part of an advertising campaign, the woman is labelled/ named as the housewife. It suggests that that

Hegemony

Image

He is breaking stereotypes which caused outrage Adidas Advert: The girl has hairy legs on show of which caused outrage as it is not very 'feminine'. men threatened to rape her as it 'threatened their patriarchy'. They feel threatened because she has a 'masculine' feature and feel the need to get back at her. Audience response (WaterAid) : - Uplifting - Annoyed - Heartbroken - Cynical - More positive that an average charity advert - Cute - Rewarding - feel good - Frustration that she's singing in English - Irritated Use of the handheld camera makes  "By donating money to WaterAid you can make a sad African person happy."

How to write a question in an exam

How to write a question in an exam: 1. Read the question 2. Underline key terms 3. Plan 4. Introduction 5. Paragraphs 6. Conclusion  An introduction needs its own structure: - Definitions -> Key Terms - Context - > Background of advert - Argument -> Point of view ("I am going to argue that audience response is influenced by the time period that the media product is released in") Paragraph Structure: - P Point (What you plan to talk about) - E Evidence (From Knowledge) - USE MEDIA LANGUAGE! - A Argument (Comes from adverts you've studied) CONCLUSIONS ARE NOT IMPORTANT

Kiss Of The Vampire (1963)

Image
Kiss Of The Vampire (1963) In this advert the women have short hair ; in 1963 having short hair would not have been stereotypical as the beauty standard was to have long hair so it suggests she is rebelling against society. This could suggest god is punishing her for doing this as the hermeneutic code of her neck being exposed suggests she is about to be bitten/killed by the vampire (good vs evil). Her light clothes suggests purity and this is juxtaposed against her actions to cut her hair. The dark colour scheme of greys, blacks and dark reds has gothic connotations and the clothes worn by the women are juxtaposed with the purity of the white/gold. it is a symbolic code of the gothic genre and has connotations of darkness. The 1960s 'skimpy' clothing has sexual connotations. The poster is in a state of disequilibrium because it portrays the danger and drama that could occur. The proaoretic code of the castle suggests that the characters will be at that loc

Comparing Advertisement Genres

Image
Comparing Advertisement Genres This is an advertisement for high end clothing retailer 'Gucci'. It presents the ideology that by wearing their clothes you will become tanned, hot and have sex appeal. The mode of address is the selling the luxury lifestyle of the gucci clothes and how wearing them has enabled them to climb to the top of the social ladder. The red lipstick and nail polish worn by the model in the middle has sexual connotations and suggests that by wearing these clothes sh has something she may have previously lacked and that she is living the lap of luxury. This is an advertisement for children's charity 'NSPCC'. The advert uses a slogan in a bold font to attract and shock the audience. The torn teddy is a symbolic code for the abuse the children have suffered through and the tears in their lives. The lexis of 'real children' suggests that the audience isn't living in the reality that the children are, but living in a fantasy of
